Explorer for Courses

Using the Explorer High Performance Computing (HPC) Cluster is a great way to help your students develop and build essential HPC skills. The Research Computing (RC) team is here to make learning and teaching HPC as easy as possible for instructors and their students. Our website provides a Courses on Explorer FAQ and Course Guide, On-Demand Training videos, and our Explorer-focused online user guide.

Why Use Explorer?

Using Explorer for your course allows students to learn how to use CPU and GPU hardware that they may not typically have access to. This access to research-level tools is a great way to provide Experiential Education and prepare students for co-ops, research projects, and provide exposure to exciting career opportunities. Explorer for Courses also allows access to Open OnDemand (OOD), which provides students with a streamlined experience using HPC resources without needing to install anything on their laptops. Instructors can use applications that are all pre-installed before the course begins.

Who is Using Explorer?

How Do I Get Started?

The RC team offers weekly virtual drop-in office hours, 1:1 consultations at your convenience, recorded introductory HPC training that you can share with your students, and even personalized training for your course. You can also send the RC team an email at rchelp@northeastern.edu. We are happy to work through any questions you may have about getting started on Explorer!
