  • Maintenance Completed: Increased Wait Times Possible – December 2, 2025

    The RC team is currently working with contractors on updates to some of the racks at the MGHPCC. Nodes will be brought down in the adjacent racks, which can lead to increased wait times for users in order to keep the heat manageable in the area.

  • Scratch Purge Scheduled for Tuesday, December 2, 2025

    To ensure adequate resources for all users, the Research Computing team will continue to purge /scratch space monthly. The next purge is planned for Tuesday, December 2, 2025. As a reminder, if you have any data on /scratch that you would like to retain, please move your data into persistent storage, like /work. Research Computing also provides archival storage options in the form of Disk and Tape media.

    If you need to expand the amount of storage you have available in /work, please submit a Storage Space Extension Request. If you have any questions, please submit a ticket, drop by our Office Hours, or Schedule a Consultation.

  • MATLAB license server Update Thursday, November 13

    The MATLAB license server, which is ITS-owned and managed, is being updated at 3:30 p.m. ET on Thursday, November 13. Jobs will not get cancelled but there might be difficulty in getting jobs started for about 5 minutes.

  • NESE Tape System Maintenance and Software Upgrade

    NESE tape system maintenance and a major software upgrade is scheduled to begin on December 1, 2025. As a result, the NESE Tape service will be offline from December 1 to December 5. Starting December 8 through December 12, the service will be back online with reduced performance. All maintenance activities are planned to conclude on December 12, 2025.

  • MGHPCC Annual Shutdown Monday, June 2 – Thursday, June 5

    The Massachusetts Green High Performance Computing Center (MGHPCC) will be conducting its annual shutdown for maintenance work on Tuesday, June 3. To prepare for that maintenance, RC will be shutting down all services from Monday, June 2 until Thursday, June 5. Research Computing’s servers and services are physically located at MGHPCC and are included in this shutdown, along with the high performance cluster systems of Harvard, Boston University, MIT, and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. All RC-managed services will be powered down starting at 6 a.m. ET on Tuesday, June 2. We are currently anticipating that RC-managed services will be powered back on Thursday, June 5, given that all work is completed in a timely manner.
